Rare Apple I computer worth $200,000 donated to recycling center
An example of an Apple I computer on display at the US' Smithsonian Institution. Ed Uthman
A $100,000 check is waiting for a mystery woman who donated a rare Apple 1 computer to a Silicon Valley recycling firm.
CleanBayArea in Milpitas, California, is trying to track down a woman in her 60s who dropped off some electronic goods in April, when she was cleaning out the garage after her husband died.
50-50 split
In one of the boxes, buried under worthless keyboards, personal computer pieces and wires, was a 1976 Apple 1, a groundbreaking home computer. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak designed and hand-built the computers and sold them for $666.66 each. Only a few dozen are known still to exist.
The recycling firm sold the Apple for $200,000 in a private auction. Its policy is to split the proceeds 50-50 with the person who donated the equipment.
Made of wood
"The body was made out of wood. I've never seen anything like that. My first reaction was it was a fake. Then we started looking at it," said Victor Gichun, vice president of marketing for CleanBayArea.
Gichun declined to say who bought the Apple 1, only that it was a private collector. He's not sure whether the Apple is still operational.
Mystery woman
He said he will recognize the woman, who he believes is local, when he sees her and will write her out a check for $100,000.
The boxes sat in the company's warehouse on a pallet for a couple of weeks because they didn't expect to find anything valuable, Gichun said.

Marcos
Administration trained its' Armed Forces to reclaim Sabah in 1968, but
it is unsuccessful .. Why is it that the current Administration can't do
it again?
The Philippine government raised the Sabah claim
during the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, which urged
that the claim be decided by the world court or the United Nations.
Malaysia, however, knowing that the Philippines had a valid claim,
refused to take the case to an international body. The Marcos
administration even thought of sending a guerrilla force to Sabah and
went to the extent of training such a force in Corregidor, until a
recruit ran to then Sen. Ninoy Aquino to expose the Jabidah massacre.
The exposé killed the plan to infiltrate Sabah.

Apocalyptic Sandstorm in Phoenix, Arizona D: July 5, 2011
"A massive dust storm descended on the Phoenix area,
drastically reducing visibility and delaying flights as strong winds downed trees and left thousands of residents without power.
The dust cloud that moved across the Phoenix valley Tuesday night had formed in an afternoon storm in the Tucson area, and then rolled north across the desert before sweeping over the city like an enormous wave, said National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Iniguez.
Radar data showed the storm's towering dust wall had reached as high as 8,000 to 10,000 feet, or nearly 2 miles, he said.
"This was pretty significant," Iniguez told The Associated Press. "We heard from a lot of people who lived here for a number of storms and this was the worst they'd seen."
By the time the dust cloud neared the metropolitan area, it had started to dissolve but it still towered over the city with a wall of at least 5,000 feet, according to the weather service.
KSAZ-TV in Phoenix reported the storm appeared to be roughly wide in some spots. It briefly covered the city's downtown at around nightfall. The storm was part of the Arizona monsoon season, which typically starts in mid June and lasts through September.
The National Weather Service says strong winds with gusts of up to more than 60 mph in some places rapidly moved the dust cloud northwest through Phoenix and the surrounding cities of Avondale, Tempe and Scottsdale. More than a dozen communities in the area also were placed under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. Some 8,000 Salt River Project utility customers were left without power, KNXV-TV reported late Tuesday.
The Federal Aviation Administration said on its website that because of low visibility in the area, no Phoenix-bound flights were allowed to leave Las Vegas or Los Angeles airports until 9 p.m., and flights at the airport were delayed for about an hour."

Google vs Facebook: Google fights back with gaming social network plan
Facebook: it's the world's biggest website, by some calculations, and fast overtaking Google as the technology poster child of our time. But don't underestimate Google, which is reportedly working on a new social networking project to try and rival Facebook's domination in the space.
Social networking is one area where Google has failed to get traction, at least in the English-speaking world. It owns Orkut, which is big in Brazil and India - but where Facebook is starting to close in on their market share, according to comScore. Buzz, Wave, Friend Connect - none have quite made the impact Google would have liked, though worthwhile experiments. So what's next?
Google has been talking to games firms about integrating their games as just one part of a new social networking service, reports the Wall Street Journal. Disney's newly acquired Playdom, Electronic Art's reasonably newly acquired Playfish and Zynga have all been approached; and if the latter looks ripe for acquisition, you won't be surprised that Google recently invested a significant chunk in the firm.
Chief executive Eric Schmidt would not comment on the service this week but said "the world doesn't need a copy" of Facebook. The world might not need that, but what Google needs is a copy of the most advertiser-friendly parts of that and, as the Zynga investment shows, Google is keen to move in on one of the web's hottest - and most profitable - growing markets of casual gaming. As WSJ says, a Google offering would also be good news for developers worrying over over-dependence on Facebook.
Games are an important traffic generator which substantially increase the amount of time users spend on sites - ultimately good for the host site because of associated advertising and the developer, who. with the right game can attract a large audience. But as Facebook's audience and its advertising network continues to grow, it presents an increasingly serious threat to Google.
Expect relations to grow more aggressive between the two.

Duterte son also flashes dirty finger at critics
DAVAO CITY, Philippines - Like father, like son.
A son of Davao City Vice-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte defied criticisms aimed at his sister, Mayor Sara Duterte, for punching a court sheriff last Friday.
Councilor Paul Duterte, president of the city's league of barangays, also flashed a dirty finger in front of journalists when asked about his reactions to his father's stand on the issue.
"Nia pa oh (Here's more)," he said.
He immediately walked away after flashing the dirty finger.
His father on Monday flashed the dirty finger and cussed at critics of his daughter Sara.
"Ano? Mga columnist? Oh! (shows dirty finger) ta#@n*a (expletive), hindi lang sampal ang inabot noon. (Expletive), you wage a battle against your own people using policemen?" he said.
The city's 30 barangay captains went to Councilor Duterte's office to express support for the mayor.
"We take the side of the poor and oppressed. We are always at her side. Expect the worst," said Barangay 28-C chief Sheena Duazo.
Meanwhile, the Davao chapter of the Sheriffs Confederation of the Philippines expressed dismay at the decision of court sheriff Abe Andres on not filing a case against Mayor Duterte.
"Hurt kami sa nangyari kay Andres, pero nirerespeto namin disisyon ni Andres. Hihintayin nalang namin ang hakbang ng national," said chapter president Sergio Tupaz. - Report from Francis Magbanua, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao

Duterte flashes dirty finger at Sara’s critics
MANILA, Philippines - Davao City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Monday flashed the dirty finger and cussed at Facebook- and columnist-critics of her daughter Sara following her widely-publicized punching of a trial court sheriff last Friday.
“Ano? Mga columnist? Oh! (shows dirty finger) ta#@n* (expletive),” he said, when asked what he thought about the criticisms from columnists and those who have posted negative comments on the popular social networking site Facebook.
Mr. Duterte, now the acting mayor after her daughter went on leave, again defended his daughter's actions against Sheriff Abe Andres.
Duterte, a popular local official known for bringing peace and order to Davao City, said it doesn't really matter to them whether Sara is removed from her post or loses her license as lawyer.
If he was the mayor at that time of the demolition, Duterte said not only would he have punched the sheriff, he would also have kicked the officer of the court.
"Buti nga kung ganun lang abutin mo sa kin, p#t@ng (expletive)," he said. "Kung ako ang mayor, may tama yan talaga."
Two lawyers sent by Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo arrived in Davao City on Monday to investigate the violent incident last Friday between Duterte and Andres.
Sara faced the media again on Monday and thanked her family and those who have expressed support for her actions.
Sara will be on leave until July 11. -- report from Jorge Cariño, ABS-CBN News
